Of promises and unfettered dreams

Standard

Didn’t you promise to sing these blues away

coax some meaning out of my muddled words

well, hurry up then, i’m already two thirds

drunk on the sultry moonlight…

I haven’t forgotten that you dream

only in black and white

but my glasses

are shaded, you see

(and its not just me)

even the jaded sunlight likes to break free

into a symphony of colors

once in a while

and did i mention that i love your smile?

aren’t we too caught up

in the sway of the stars;

who pays any attention to the hours

(lost)

or the ceaseless murmuring of the trees

maybe all you really need

is to allow yourself to drift a bit

upon this unchained breeze.

As for me, I’m all set

to glide along,

waiting for my promised song.

I’ve seen…

I’ve seen the motley shades of the sky
I’ve seen a little birdie learning to fly
I’ve seen the night steal over the sun
On a dreary winter afternoon

I’ve seen the sunkissed mountain peaks
I’ve seen caged animals trying to speak
I’ve seen a raging storm’s black dress
Fade away into nothingness

I’ve seen the azure waters of the sea
I’ve seen squirrels prancing on a tree
I’ve seen the mesmerizing sultry moon
Liven up even the most melancholy tune

I’ve seen some of nature’s prettiest sights
Sanguine mornings and dreamy nights
Masterstrokes of God’s skilled brush
That no evil in the world can touch
In every little thing there’s beauty to be found
All i have to do is to look around

Losing Myself

Standard

I was happy

& carefree

I was doing just fine

Along came

Education

And ruined my life

I wasn’t worried about

The perils

Tomorrow might bring

They taught me to

Anticipate the future

& I lost my will to sing

I loved not knowing

Where my path

Would lead today

They taught me to

Plan ahead

& I felt my excitement ebb away

My life was a kaleidoscope

Of colors

In every shade

They taught me to

Walk the line

& my colors faded into grey

The little things in life

Used to please me

The most

They taught me

To focus on the bigger picture

& my pleasures became lifeless ghosts

So profound

Was the effect

Education had on me

I went from being

A vibrant soul

To a sophisticated wannabe

I still search for

My former self

In the depths of my heart

Who knows, maybe one day

I’ll find her

& we’ll make a fresh start

Dream a Dream

Standard

Let sleep cast a spell

As I close my eyes tonight

Let no one disturb me

Until the morning light

Let me lay aside my fears

And my worries of the day

As I lose myself in a dream

And go to a land far away

A land that has no boundaries

Where wishes do come true

Where no prayer goes unanswered

Where the sky is bright and blue

For there are so many things I wanted

That I did never get

Though that’s okay ‘cos I know

God gave me what was best

So let me dream of things that never were

And may never even be

If only in a dream, let me live

My sweetest fantasy

Let me sleep like a child

As I dream a dream tonight

Let no one wake me up

Until the sun is shining bright
